What Is A Dental Emergency?

The most obvious dental emergencies involve oral trauma. Issues like cracked, chipped, loose, knocked-out (avulsed) or impacted teeth (teeth driven back into the socket) demand immediate attention. However, some other dental emergencies many not be as obvious. If you damage a piece of dental work like a crown or filling, or if you have a persistent toothache or advanced gum disease, these issues also count as dental emergencies.

What Should I Do In A Dental Emergency?

Make a same-day appointment at Seaglass Dental Care, or walk into our office at 384 Northlake Blvd, North Palm Beach, FL.

Next, recover your tooth or damaged dental work (if applicable.) You can place a missing tooth back in its socket after washing it gently with water, or put it in a small bag of milk.

Treat bleeding by using clean cotton balls or sterile gauze to absorb blood.

You can also take an over-the-counter medicine like naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to help with pain and swelling. Ice packs applied externally can also help with pain, swelling and inflammation.

Keep in mind that time is of the essence and that some emergencies, like a knocked-out tooth, must be treated within 1-2 hours to save the tooth.

We offer same-day emergency appointments for all of our patients. If you can, we ask that you call ahead at (561) 581-5001 to let us know about your emergency so we can prepare accordingly for your visit. However, we know this isn’t always possible, so you can always walk into our office in North Palm Beach at 384 Northlake Blvd, North Palm Beach, FL, and we will do our best to treat you as soon as we can.
